Olkenland, officially the Kingdom of Olkenland (Olkenish: Kungeriked Ølkenland), is an island nation of 836,551 people in the Zendari world. The territory of Olkenland covers 105,824 square kilometres (40,858 sq mi). The majority of the population speaks Olkenish, with a small population of descendants of Norwegian settlers who speak Norwegian and a dialect called "Øyjnorsk" (Island Norwegian).
Etymology
Olkenland comes from Old Norse "Hǫlkn", flat, and "Land", land. The name was given to it by the Norse in reference to the flat plains and waters of the country.
History
Settlement
The first recorded evidence of Olkenland was by the Norse in the early 800's. In 843, Fríðrikr Þórrson (modern Olkenish: Fridrik Torssen), later King Fridrik I became the first settler of the island. In 852 a small fishing village was established called "Flatfiskahǫfn", which would later develop into the capital city, Storbørg.
