History

Nordenland during the 1840s

On the 2nd of January 1840, At the young age of 22 after only 4 years on the throne, King Andreas I was declared dead after suffering from health related issues at The National Palace of Nordenland in Heiläkt (Now Bascern), the people of Nordenland entered a week of National mourning, however it was not only a week of sadness and despair but a week of uncertainty. Unlike previous Kings, King Andreas I had no Children, meaning there was no obvious successor to the throne. The King's final wish towards his wife Princess Emilia would be that his successor would be one of his cousins elected by the people. Princess Emilia had scheduled the election to take place on the 7th of January of that year. However at this time in the city of Tärris (Törsvik) The Republic of Fyrstein had begun plotting a plan to advance over the border between the 2 nations at Käntë led by Asii Raitaasus. The army of Fyrstein set out on the 5th of January 1840 headed north towards Käntë , they attacked Nordenlandic border guards based at the wall opposition guards were heavily outnumbered leading to victory for Fyrstein, after crossing the border they immediately advanced north to Heiläkt. After positioning themselves 4 kilometres south of the city at Südüfer they prepared for battle. On the 7th day of January the Fyrsterin Army advanced onwards into Heiläkt, conquering the land as their own. Days later the government of Fyrstein passed a bill to rename Heiläkt, Bascern.

During the year 1844, Fyrstein entered a national crisis. Whilst Fyrsterin was widely spoken in the southern part and the central part of the country, Nordenlandic was spoken in the north. This caused a cultural disagreement between the two and the situation got worse as time fled by. In 1848, a Nordenlander, Skülí Mathíasön started a violent riot infront of government building in Tärris (today known as Torsvika) and was shortly arrested. This situation caught the Nordenlandic people's attention in Fyrstein, and many people began rioting, demanding independence and ending discrimination in the country. Many of the rioters were arrested and many were sentenced to death by the Fyrsterin government. Following the incident, a new law was passed that refused many Nordenlanders permission to stay in the large and populous towns. Nordenlanders in the southern part of the country were thus sent to the north, so that the southern part consisted only of the Fyrsterin.

After the 1840s

In 1851, the new President of Fyrstein dismissed communism and moved towards democracy. In 1856, Fyrstein's first election was held in the centre of Saga. The conservative political party Sosiaalinuukendemokraatii Poliittinenpuoluäa won with 73.6% and a new President and Prime Minister were elected. During 1859, the Government of Fyrstein voted against the death penalty law and all discriminative laws made during 1840s.

As time fled by, Nordenlanders continued to protest all over the nation in 1860 demanding independence from Fyrstein. During this moment, the political party Vaaita won the second election and immediately granted the Nordenlanders' wish. In 1862, Fyrstein was peacefully divided into two countries, Fyrstein and Nordenland. Fyrstein signed peace treaty with Nordenland in 1863 and a ceremony took place where the Prime Minister officially signed papers with King Andreas I' Cousin, King Edward II handing the land over.

The border between two countries opened for free movement in 1869.
