Andoria is a small island nation located in the south east of the Great Pacific Region. For long it and it's inhabitants remained separated from the rest of the world. Not until satellite imaging in the late enlightenement era became availble was the nation found and recognized by the rest of the world.
History
The prehistory of Andoria is obscure; archaeological evidence supports the theory that people first came to the island in the pre-calendar times. Among the evidence are carbon dated pottery fragments and molecular data from pet cats that were brought by the first men of the island.
It is not known how or why the Andorians ended up on the island. Mythological data suggests the first men were common folk from another world whose rafts were caught by a storm. Adrift on the harsh ocean only a handful survivors ended up on the hostile island of Andoria.
Geography
The Island of Andoria is the biggest and only inhabited island in the Andorian archipelago. The Andorian island cluster consists of about 56 relatively small geographically newer islands of volcanic origin.
There are several active volcanos in the Andoria archipelago, the biggest being the Heart of Andoria at the center of the Island of Andoria. The Heart of Andoria is thought to be past due for an eruption, leaving the Andorian population at risk of a major catastrophe in the coming generations.
Flora and Fauna
Despite its tropical forests, Andoria has a limited number of plant animals and species - though many being indigenous.
Because of it's evolutionary isolation, the ecosystem is at constant threat of the introduction of invasive species. The Andorians being a tribal nation rely heavily on the environment, being caught with a non-native species is at risk of harsh punishment. If found guilty to having intentionally introduced such a species the defendant could theoretically recieve death penalty, though such a verdict has yet to happen.
On the island you will find a healthy and plentiful population of Andorian cats, a special breed of the common domestic cat, Felis catus. The introduction of the cats are thought to have greatly disrupted the native fauna after being introduced with the first men. Archaeological data suggest that the cats have made at least a third of the small rodent species and half of the bird species on the island go extinct.
Government
Andoria is run as a tribal dynasty by the Andogo family blood line. While people are generally happy with the governance of the island, there seem to be some discourse going on whether the nation should switch to a democratic model instead. The chief tribesman, Jesper Andogo, have never explicitly commented on this, but is thought to not approve of such a movement.
